What’s the Scoop?!?

Today was the last day of shadowing at the United Mission Hospital. It’s a bittersweet day, as we are all exhausted but had such a wonderful experience there. Every staff member and student there was so welcoming and taught us all so much! Below are some pictures from our last day.

This is where the nurses place the babies as soon as they are born for an infant assessment and care. Much different than the USA!

Four of the nursing students were able to watch a C-Section today, including Anneke who is featured wearing pantaloons and rabbit slides. Yes, these outfits were provided by the hospital 😉

We all enjoyed the food during our time at the hospital. Pre-med students got to enjoy a celebration of cake and “chiya” for a couple of doctors who were traveling. One of these doctors was our very own Theo Beels. The nursing students ate at the canteen during the mandatory tea-time. By the end of the week, we gradually shifted to greasier foods for a sense of home.

After a restful afternoon, most of us went downtown to some shakes. it’s been in the upper 80’s all week, so they tasted DELICIOUS.

In the evening, we met with Pernilla, a pediatric nurse from Sweden. We got to hear about her amazing work she’s done in Nepal. She created a teaching program which trained nurses on how to use distraction for pain management. She is truly amazing!

Lastly, we finally taught Prof. Sinniah how to play “Cover your Assets” which has been a huge hit in this group since day 1. Here is him looking mischievous (not much different from normal).

I was being honest when I said the last thing we did today was play games. However, Prof. Sinniah released videos of us dancing and playing games with some community members from two days ago that are too good not share.

As we finish up this week, we are excited for our next adventures, but also sad to say goodbye to all of the friends we made along the way. Pray for us as we continue with our last couple of days in Tansen, and start traveling the winding roads soon 🙂
