Third Day of Shadowing!

Our day started off per usual with toast, eggs, and Starbucks coffee Prof. Sinniah brought from the US. Today is day three shadowing at the hospital with the Preeps chasing doctors around the hospital and the Nursing students continuously looking for the our peers that seem to disappear in a blink!

Today Amelia and I had a unique opportunity to follow in the Maternity ward with both the Obstetrician/Gynecologist and the Nursing students! Highlights of this was assisting for an entire birth! A healthy baby boy! (Yes I cried) We also got to learn about the Doctors process of seeing and assessing patients in the Outpatient Department which is a mix of Urgent Care and Primary Care.

Many of us enjoyed a light meal at the canteen around 10 am. Sometimes there is breakfast food but usually samosas or variations of rice dishes! Meanwhile there were other interesting cases happening in the hospital including Renee and Katelyn observing an orthopedic surgery together!

After lunch and some exciting story telling, the Preeps were back to the hospital while the nursing students attended a Pediatric Nursing course graduation! While it was mostly in Nepali we were able to draw parallels from what we have learned in our Pediatric unit to what they had focused on! We were all pretty tired to fast so we spent some time resting and in the guest house before dinner.

We took some photos with the “King of the Guest House”

After dinner, we were invited to Debbie and Les’ house, a couple that has been apart of missions in Nepal for over 20 years! They shared their story of becoming part of the mission here. We finished off by exchanging some of our favorite hymns.
